ABOUT THE PLUSVALOR PROJECT
Starting date of the project: 1st December 2008
Ending date of the project: 30th November 2010
Summary:
We derived the idea of the project from two experiences conducted in the Municipalitiy of Milan "Laboratorio Interculture" and "Apriti Sesamo" aiming at the valorisation of language and culture of origin and involving about 500 Arab-speaking children and 100 parents. During the monitoring of the profjects, it appeared necessary going deeper, through a research action, into issues concerning the relationship between Language 1 and Language 2 under the perspective of plurilingualism. In restating the importance of valorising L1 as a way of reinforcing cultural identity, we intend to enlarge the discourse to plurilingualism, fundamental objective of Europe of 25 in order to foster dialogue among cultures and enhance mobility. Teachers' training on plurilingualism is crucially important, considering thet outdated pedagogical settings, which hold plurilingualism responsible of poor learning in L2, are still common among them. To bolster this objective, we predispose trainings for teachers focused on the issue of the relationship between L1 and L2 inside migratory contexts, the construction of innovative instruments and the testing ground of didactic paths with reference of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. A further point of attention is the support of parents' role: as a matter of facts, the learning of L2 among adults is a necessary condition, but not sufficient in itself, to guarantee a suitable integration level for the families.
Today
still a minority of migrants posses a certain knowledge of Europe and
of the hosting country, while parents' awareness of the existing traning
and studying oppurtunities, school organization, social service,
healthcare, oppurtunities offered by the new system Europe is a
guarantee of equal oppurtunities for new generations. To achieve these
objectives we will accomplish experimental paths of civic education and
orientation along with the production and experimentation of
plurilingual/1st language valorisations tools.
