THANKS FOR GIVING YOUR SUPPORT TO THE OEP

Plurilingualism is based on two fundamental and complementary principles :

- Linguistic and cultural diversity is the expression of the world's richness, its preservation is essential, it cannot be divided, it is a basic principle which is part of biodiversity ;

- Languages are not boundaries, they are windows looking onto the world : understanding and speaking several languages is at the same time an aspect of the social and economic life, a manifestation of culture, a personal richness and an individual and collective asset.

These principles seem to be widely shared, they are well adapted to today's world which is fundamentally plurilingual and where nothing is ever assured.

In many fields, these principles are at work. Nevertheless the temptation is huge of a single language, especially in Europe.

The vocation of the OEP is to pool knowledge, information and thinking between the actors of plurilingualism to facilitate convergence.

To give a topical example, the OEP opposes the development of English-only university trainings and favours truly international trainings.

The OEP is opposed to the fact that the website of the Italian rotating Presidencyof the European Union, starting on 1 July, should be in two languages only. This is a complete break of well-established uses according to which the websites of the Presidency of the Union are in at least four languages (the language of the country presiding + German, English and French). The French presidency in 2008 and the Spanish one in 2010 had used 6 languages.

The OEP works so that plurilingualism is given more importance in the European Commission.

The OEP campaigns for the teaching of at least two languages besides the teaching language from nursery school to university.

To lead these actions and many more, we need a lot of voluntary work and also financial means (editorial and technical maintenance of the website, international meetings, etc.).

THE OEP ABSOLUTELY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT, AND CALLS FOR YOUR DONATION or YOUR MEMBERSHIP.
